 J. Larraz. Comunidad Valenciana (Spain) has now its own energy cluster with a clear objective, to encourage innovation in valencian companies of  the sector in order to improve its competitiveness. The cluster is led by AVAESEN (valencian Association of Companies of the Energy Sector ), Iberdrola and ITE (Technological Institute of Energy).

The companies Neo Sky, Montesol Energía, Corporación SRB Energy, Ibérica de Aparellajes, IM2 System, Power Electronics España, Tradex Gestión Capital y Zurcal. Clusters are business groupings that combine small, medium and large companies which work as the economy’s driving force. Corporations are joined by several technological and training centers. The competitive advantage offered by the cluster is that its members have geographic and business links, so they can generate synergies ranging from the collection of customers, to the reduction of costs.

This is not the first group that appears in this region;.The Plastic cluster has been recently set up, neverthelessothers like the Vinalopó’s Footwear cluster or Packaging companies cluster develop their activities for a long  time in Valencia. The two strongest clusters in the region are the one for the tile industry in Castellon, and the one created by the car parts manufacturers that are associated with the Valencian Association of Automotive Industry (AVIA). All these clusters are trying to maximize synergy for innovation, business strategies, design and to set up a reference of innovation and knowledge in their sector.

Searching for grants

One of the aims of this energy cluster is to access to public aids offered by the different administrations. Iberdrola, along with the other members which have been associated, are working on the development of a strategic plan to promote the registration in the Innovative Business Partnerships, of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce (MITYC).
According to the sources of the cluster, this arrangement will provide access to programs of the Ministry and Communities through grants or loans. Another objective is to get venture capital funds to help the  companies to grow in size and to get access to other supporting instruments of research and development.

The approach to the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce will provide access to financial aids for management and coordination structures of the Association.

The first actions that cluster will carry out are: strategies and industrial development around the electric vehicle; the internationalization of the energy business, cooperation in energy products and services of high impact, and strengthening coordination between social agents, industries and technical agents.
